Educational Assistants Association
On Sunday, November 15, 2020, the EAA lost one of its own. Leana was an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know her. We extend our deepest sympathies to her friends and family. The following text was written by Leana’s former administrator and colleagues and captures the beautiful life and legacy of Leana.
In Leana’s memory, donations to the Waterloo Region Down Syndrome Society (https://www.wwdss.ca/programs/social-programs/), would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
Throughout our lives there are friends who instantly become family. Leana Beckett was a perfect example of this.
Leana lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: playing with her dogs, reading, knitting, and spending time by the lake. She loved chatting with friends and treasured her time with her family.
Leana had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. You couldn’t help but notice her generous, loving spirit, and her care and concern for all the students she supported over the years. Leana had a huge heart for her past and present students and demonstrated such joy in watching them succeed.
Leana knew how to appreciate every moment of life. We remember her for her optimism and positive energy which continues to radiate through all of us. We'll miss her smile and her laughter.
Leana taught us how to be our best, to live in the moment, and to never hold a grudge. Her kind-hearted and generous spirit will always be with us.
Leana took each day and challenge exactly as it came. She left us a great legacy which taught us to persevere no matter the circumstances.
In the words of Maya Angelou, “A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.”
Leana is that great soul.
