All WRDSB staff have their pension through OMERS, unless they have their OCT certificate.
Our Board works directly with OMERS every January to come up with a list of eligible employees for enrollment.
An employee is defined as eligible (and are given the option to join) if they meet one of the following conditions in both the previous two calendar years:
- You have worked 700 hours; or
- You earned at least 35% of the CPP earnings limit
In January, once an employee has met one of these requirements, the Board sends out a letter inquiring if the employee is interested in enrolling with OMERS plan; the employee will be set up at that time if they are. Please note, that once an employee becomes a member, they will remain in the plan going forward, even if their hours or income falls below the eligibility requirements (until the employee resigns or retires).
