Negotiations Update
Dear Members:
The purpose of this correspondence is to provide you with an update regarding the status of Local Bargaining.
We have now met with the School Board on at least six occasions. Progress has been slow to come thus far - which we blame in part on the impact of Covid - 19 both in terms of the workload it has created to support the development and implementation of a new model for education and in terms of its impact on how business is conducted during these unprecedented times.
We are currently scheduled to return to the Bargaining table on August 20, 2020. If at that time we are unable to make meaningful progress at the Bargaining Table we may look to the Membership for a further show of support. More details will follow at that time should this become necessary.
Otherwise we wish you a restful summer break.
Warm Regards,
Colleen Dietrich Sisson
President - Educational Assistants Association

SEPTEMBER START UP
Dear EAA Membership,
We acknowledge and understand the apprehension Members are feeling about returning to school in September and we share your concern. With so many unknowns, around scheduling, workload, expectations, health and safety etc., it is bound to create some anxiety.
At this point, all we know is that school boards in Ontario must submit their safety plan for re-entry by August 4th to the Ministry of Education. Once we know the direction the WRDSB is taking we can enter into discussions. We will keep everyone informed with any updates along the way.
Please be aware that, through the EWAO, we have representation on provincial working groups that were established to gather feedback and inform new policy around COVID-19. Locally, we have a strong voice on the JHSC to educate and bring our specific concerns forward. Feedback was also solicited through a survey for staff, students and the community. Many avenues have been utilized to capture a bigger picture of the issues in a short amount of time.
Your EAA Executive will continue to advocate for the unique roles that EAs and CYWs have in schools and the challenges they face. We welcome any comments and suggestions you may have.
I hope everyone finds time to relax and recharge this summer.
All my best,
Lisa
Vice President - EAA
