Dear Member,
Beginning with the new calendar year on January 1, 2020, the health and dental rates for the EWAO-ATEO Benefits Plan will change. Please see further information below.
Please note: There is no impact for members working
full-time hours (1.0 FTE).

Changes to extended health and dental benefit rates

Each year, the EWAO-ATEO Benefits Committee reviews the overall costs and funding for the plan to ensure it remains financially sustainable. The existing benefit rates will have remained unchanged for 21 months, since the EWAO Benefits Plan began on March 1, 2018. As a result, the rate changes effective on January 1, 2020 are required to address inflation and increased benefit usage since the plan’s inception.
Effective January 1, 2020, there will be a 6% increase in the dental benefit rate and a 17% increase in the extended health benefit rate.

How these rate changes may impact you

Extended health and dental benefits are 100% funded by the EWAO-ATEO Benefits Plan for eligible full-time members. Therefore, members working full-time hours or 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) are not impacted.
Extended health and dental benefit rates are pro-rated for members working less than full-time. Therefore, if your FTE is less than 1.0, your benefit premiums will change.
For example, if you work a 0.7 FTE (i.e. working 70% of full-time hours) and are enrolled for family extended health and dental benefits, your monthly benefit cost will increase by approximately $20. This will include any applicable provincial sales tax.
The following table illustrates approximate increases to monthly costs:

FTE Status and $ Per Month Impact* 0.90 FTE 0.8 FTE 0.70 FTE 0.6 FTE 0.50 FTE
Or 90% of full-time hours Or 80% of full-time hours Or 70% of full-time hours Or 60% of full-time hours Or 50% of full-time hours
Health $3 $5 $7 $9 $11
Dental $1 $1 $2 $2 $2
Total monthly impact $4 $6 $9 $11 $13
Health $6 $11 $17 $22 $27
Dental $1 $2 $3 $4 $5
Total monthly impact $7 $13 $20 $26 $32
*$ impact is per month and some rounding applies
