From the WRDSB to staff:

The purpose of this message is to provide you with information regarding the 3 PD Days scheduled for next week and to communicate COVID-19 training requirements.

The majority of the training and learning modules will be delivered virtually. Staff (Contract and LTO Teachers, EA/CYW, DECE, PSSP, SMACA) who are assigned to schools starting September 1st are expected to be in attendance at their sites, except in those situations where schools are still not accessible as a result of capital projects. Staff (ESS) who are assigned to schools starting before September 1st are expected to be in attendance at their sites, except in those situations where schools are still not accessible as a result of capital projects. School start and end times will remain the same. School Principals will determine and communicate the specific timelines and work locations for staff (as identified above) to engage in these training and learning activities. In some cases, all staff may be able to come together in a physically distanced way, to engage in the learning. In other cases, staff may be assigned to a work location within the school or in a classroom to engage in these learning activities.

Staff who are unable to attend the workplace due to an approved accommodation through Employee Wellness and Human Resources are expected to complete the training modules below remotely through the D2L Learning Management System which will be accessible starting September 1, 2020.

System Administrators will provide similar direction regarding location, timelines and expectations to all Itinerant Staff who are based out of the Education Centre.

DECEs Core day DECEs will work their regular scheduled shift.  AM and PM DECEs may choose to work their regular scheduled shift or core day, but need to advise their administrator by 3pm on Monday, August 31st of their choice and work the same shift for all 3 PD Days.

ESS staff will engage in the COVID-19 Health and Safety Training and understand the COVID-19 Site-Based Health and Safety Plan that will be shared by administrators on September 1, 2020.

Secondary SMACA staff: We expect our Secondary Supervision Monitors to attend the September 1 PD Day. It is important that they engage in the COVID-19 Health and Safety Training and understand the COVID-19 Site-Based Health and Safety Plan that will be shared by administrators.

Elementary SMACA staff will be provided with virtual access to complete the mandatory COVID 19 Health and Safety training which must be completed prior to them returning the 1st day of school. Administrators are reminded to please communicate the site-specific Health and Safety Plan to all SMACA staff prior to their commencing work in your school.

September 3rd PD Day

During the afternoon of September 3 PD Day you will note that we will only expect that our Concussion Management, Anaphylaxis, and Cyber Security online training will occur. Administrators are asked to ensure all staff wear gloves and practice proper hand hygiene as they perform the ‘hands-on practice’ using the sample EpiPen after watching the Anaphylaxis training video. We will shift the other remaining Mandatory Online Health and Safety Training Sessions to the November 23rd, 2020 PD Day. More information will be shared about the November PD Day at a later date.

For Occasional and Supply Support Staff PD Training for COVID-19: (Elementary & Secondary Occasional Teachers, supply THR, EA, DECEs, secretarial / clerical / THR, elementary SMACA)

The Ministry of Education issued funding for occasional and supply staff to support the return to work in a COVID-19 environment. As such, all OT and Supply Support Staff are required to complete mandatory online training requirements prior to working their first assignment with the Board unless an employee is starting on Monday August 31, 2020 (Training must be completed September 1st, 2020) (Training must be completed September 1st, 2020).  This is pertinent especially to elementary administrators who have supervision monitors and/or parking lot attendants.  Please be aware that the Staffing process for some of these employees has not yet been finalized.

All occasional and supply staff will also have the opportunity to access and complete the mandatory COVID 19 Health and Safety training electronically through the D2L online learning platform. These employees are required to complete the core COVID-19 training as well as WHMIS 2020/2021 and violence and Harassment in the workplace. Details will be provided shortly via a focused communication email outlining the training requirements and payment process for all Occasional and supply staff.

Supply staff that are regularly assigned to a site should be provided the opportunity to participate and/or receive information about the COVID-19 Site-Based Plan review prior to commencing their work.

Please find below an overview of each of the days in addition to expectations for staff.  Another message will be sent to all staff on Monday, August 31 with LIVE links to all of the learning modules identified below.
